Frontier/Xterra Front Suspension Lift

  1. Park vehicle on flat, solid surface. Raise the front of the vehicle and support with jack stands. Block the wheels. Remove both front tires and front shock absorbers. Place jack under one of control arms and raise just until the vehicle lifts off the jack stand.
  2. Unbolt the bolt that attaches sensor wire to upper control arm.
  3. Remove the cotter pin from the upper ball joint, it is located on the ball joint shaft under the upper a-arm. Remove the nut from the upper ball joint.
  4. With ball joint puller or fork, separate the upper ball joint and the a-arm from the spindle.
  5. Loosen the camber bolts, nuts and washers and remove them from pivot points on the frame. Remove the old a-arm assembly.
  6. Attach the new ball joint with bolts provided in the kit to the top portion of the new a-arm. Hand tighten the bolts at first and then tighten in a cross pattern making sure not to over tighten or you may cause them to snap. Use of Lock-Tite is recommended on these bolts.
  7. Place one bushing on the inside of each pivot point on the new a-arm. Place bushing on the outside of each pivot point on the new a-arm. You will use two bushings per side for a total of two (2) bushings on inside of each pivot point & two bushings on outside of pivot point. Grease all bushings prior to installation.
  8. Place the sleeve through the bushings in the pivot point on each a-arm, 2 sleeves per each a-arm. Make sure to grease the outside of the sleeve prior to installing.
  9. Place the sleeved portion of the a-arm into the frame pivot point mounting brackets.
  10. Slide the cam bolts through the sleeved pivot points from the inside of the a-arm and the holes of the frame pivot point mounting brackets. Make sure the center marking is facing up. On the opposite side of the pivot point slide the cam bolt washer onto the cam bolt and secure it with the cam bolt nut. The cam washer is keyed and can only be inserted in one position. Hand tighten the cam nut on both sides of the a-arm making sure that the adjustment markings on the cam bolt and washer are facing up. Tighten the cam bolt securely with a wrench and socket. Make sure both cam bolts on each side of the a-arm are secure.
  11. Place the new ball joint shaft through the hole in the spindle and secure it with the new nut provided. Tighten the nut. Slide the new cotter pin provided in the kit through the hole in the upper ball joint shaft below the nut. Bend the edges of the cotter pin to secure.
  12. Secure the sensor wire with two zip ties to the a-arm right below the point the ball joint mounts. Keep it away from the bump stops allowing enough slack in the wire for a-arm travel. Install new shock absorber provided. Lower and remove the jack from under the a-arm.
  13. Repeat steps 2-12 on the other side.
  14. Lower the vehicle and check the ride height. You will need to re-index the torsion bars as per instructions attached. An approximate ride height setting is when the upper a-arm metal stop is no less than 1/2"- and no more than 3/4" away from the rubber bump stop located on the frame. Adjust torsion bars to this setting.
  15. After installing the suspension lift your vehicle MUST be aligned. This includes adjustment of the caster, camber and height and should be done by an alignment shop.
  16. After vehicle has been aligned, double check all nuts and bolts. Make sure they are secure. Refer to re-indexing of torsion bars for proper alignment setting must read.
  17. NOTE: VERY IMPORTANT

  18. These new a-arms are designed to give your Nissan a safe, smooth riding lift and allow more ground clearance, more room for larger tires and wheels, and more wheel travel.
  19. The exact amount of lift you will receive will vary depending on the size of the tire and the width and offset of the wheel.
  20. You need to widen the stance of vehicle with new tires and wheels to counter increased center of gravity with the lift.
  21. Do not remove the rubber down stops on 4x4 vehicles. This can increase the wear of the front CV joints and increase wear of stock steering.
  22. Do not over-tighten the torsion bars. This will create a severe ride and hurt the handling by eliminating all the down travel.
