my 2001 4x4 has 62,000 miles on it. I have noticed that when it goes over speed bumps and other potholes at low speeds, it rocks back and forth pretty badly. I also have tried putting my weight on one side of the vehicle and then letting it back up, I notice that the body rocks back and forth a few times before it settles. Is there a way to quell this rocking motion and provide a better ride?

Do you mean rocking side to side? I had already changed shocks and struts on my 99.5 at 76K, and at 85K I had the side to side rock. I changed my Lower Control Arms and got new sneaks. seems gone now.
At your miles though- I can't see LCA bushing being shot though.

yeah, it rocks side to side quite a bit if I go over a bump at an angle (the front left hits first, then the front right hits, then the back left, then the back right). I really notice it when turning at a light or something and i hit uneven pavement. It also bottoms out when I have a passenger in the back, the rear seems very soft.

Springs (along with anti-sway bars) maintain the body-wheel position, shocks and struts are to dampen the "bouncing effect".
"It also bottoms out when I have a passenger in the back"
How heavy is the passenger, and/or how big is the bump that you hit at an angle? My 97SE never bottomed with standard suspension unless I had a LOT of weight in the cargo area, or went off road.
So, if you are bouncing after hitting a bump (i.e. vehicle goes up and down, side to side repeatedly for a while - say more than 4 times), you may need new shocks and/or struts.
However, if your vehicle is not bouncing, but rather compressing the suspension too easily, you probably need new springs. If it's compressing AND bouncing - you probably need both.
