got a 93 Pathfinder for cheap
      #607933 - 07/25/10 09:22 PM Attachment (44 downloads)

Hi, its been awhile since I posted but Ive still been around reading the forums, anyway I just picked up a 1993 Pathfinder yesterday for $245, It has a little damage on the front but there is no rust on the body, frame, under rear seats etc at all.. and the reverse doesn't work, but it runs well and drives in all gears going forward. It has 246k miles but it runs like it has been well maintained, although it does have a ticking sound when cold. I drove it back home(over 100 miles!) and I didn't have any trouble with it at all(I did pray the whole way lol) I'm going to clean it up and see if this Pathfinder would be worth to fix up and use as a work vehicle for my dog and tools. Ill probably be posting lots of questions since I never had to do any work aside from maint on my other Pathfinder, but I'm willing to get my hands dirty and work on this one. Heres a pic of it.

Hmmm, somebody did the HB conversion. You will want to find your body parts off of HB's unless you want to change the lights and everything back.

You will need a trans. Reverse going away is the first step in trans failure. It will run for a while in the forward gears, but they will go away too.

The cold tick is probably the exhaust manifold stud issue. You most likely have a small leak and when the manifolds heat up, they seal again.

I noticed that the front didn't look like the normal pathfinder front, replacements part will probably be easy to find since my local junkyard has a few HB pickups.

I figured it would probably need either the trans repaired or replaced, it did shift fine coming home, I'm going to have my mechanic friend look at it and see what he thinks should be done.

I believe your about about the exhaust tick, I can hear it a bit until it warms up,then it goes away, not a big deal.

I do think I got a good deal for $245 with a clear title and then being able to drive it over 100 miles to my house with absolutly no problems is a testament to these vehicles dependability(or my sheer luck!).
Heres another pic.

You got a fantastic deal with the price and the general condition. They are very reliable trucks, mine has always gotten me home. When the trans died in mine, the guys at the trans shop couldn't believe I drove it into them. I was down to just 3rd gear and the trans was all but completely destroyed.

I wouldn't have bought it myself. Almost 250k miles, body damage on a truck with a HB conversion and a tranny that will die at any time. Even when you fix the trans who knows how much longer the engine has on it. Part it out and make some money on it.

A clean maintained truck with no frame or body rust. It is also a 2wd so it has not been beat on and I personally wouldn't be afraid of the engine giving up anytime soon. Hell, 6-7 years ago I paid $300 for my POS 1985 300ZX with a burned up electrical system and rather battered body/interior.

Noithing wrong with the HB conversion, it is simply a swap of the hood, grille, and lights.

The motor runs good, aside from the cold exhaust tick, it doesn't knock, smoke and seems to have good power (ill need to pull the timing cover to check the belt though) I got the truck cheap enough to work on as a project and I have a couple mechanic friends that are going to check it out, another good point about it is that there is absolutely zero rust on the body and frame, the interior is is pretty good shape as well.

Nice find for the price. Hell, a couple Benji's and it would be an excellent DD.
