Hey guys, There's a noise coming from the front end that I don't think is normal. I can;t really hear it while inside the truck , I first noticed driving slowly next to a drive thru wall, so i am not sure how long its been going on for.
It seems to be coming from the from wheel area, and teh frequency of the noise is dependant on the speed of the vehicle. It's most noticeable when the wheels are being steered at and the truck is going slow, like walking speed. But the clicking noise is still present when the front wheels are pointed straight too. Truck is in 2WD.
If i had to guess, it sounds kind of like my old 92 Pathy when the 4Wd was not properly engaged, but I have no idea if that would apply to this. This is a 2006 SE with about 20,000 miles on it. No off roading, but the 4WD was on or on AUTO practically all winter. Any advice , fixes, or things you need for further diagnoses appreciated.

I would inspect the CV's for damage and or the wheel bearings.

Thanks for the quick reply.
The CV boots I'm pretty sure I can find :-) The wheel bearings though, is that something I can check in my driveway with my sears socket set or best left to a mechanic?

Well you can jack up the front and try shaking the wheel to see if there is any movement. If there is, then they are bad. With the CV's, I have seen them go bad and start clicking even when the boot is ok and undamaged, it is not common, but it can and does happen. The way I often find noises like yours is to have the car up on a lift with all 4 tires off the ground. Start the engine and put it into gear. Get the wheels spinning and if the noise is still there, I simply hunt it down by following it. I also have a stethescope that I carefully use to listen to bearings and such to help pinpoint problems that are hard to find.
Good luck

Thanks, going to check the wheel today.
There's also another issue, it may be related to the CV/bearing problem.
I get a vibration / noise in the truck at speeds of about 90km/h and up. I have 4 new tires, BFG Long Trails (OEM size). The vibration feels like one I had driving an army truck with really aggressive tread mud tires. It doesn't feel like an out-of-balance wheel, and it never did it before the new tires were mounted. The thing that is throwing me, is the vibration seems to go away for a bit when I flick between 2WD and Auto, which makes me think it might be a front driveline thing?

Ok, just got under the truck and now have even more questions.
1. The truck is in 2WD, but when I spin the front wheel, the front driveshaft turns. Is this normal? I thought the driveshaft would be fully disengaged when in 2WD?
2. The wheel doesn't move when I attempt to shake it.
3. No noise coming from the CV boot & the boot itself looks to be OK.
4. There is a one-time clicking noise coming from teh front drive shaft, it looks like there is a bit of play where two of the shafts come together. Sorry, don't know what the parts are called.
5. Edit - Just drove it up and down the drive way. The noise I can hear is not the same as the driveshaft noise I mentioned in #4 above. So, I put it into 4WD (4WD not AUTO), drove it around, and the clicking stops. Went up and down the street, put it back into 2WD and the clicking is back.
Thanks for any input guys.

The problem is the front U-Joints. This is extremely common problem. You are almost guaranteed to get bad joints, either front or rear (my case both) if you have 4WD.
About $20 in parts, and a little elbow grease, and problem solved. Check out thenissanpath.com for more details. Plenty of thread on the issue there.
