For the life of me, I can't shift out of 4lo in my '06X. The 4lo is blinking and I can't get it back into 2WD.

I've been having "issues" with my X 4WD system as well. I have found a way to get the system to default back to 2WD, though it may take a couple of tries. The CPU for the 4WD system is behind the driver's side floor kick plate. There are 2 clips that attach into the CPU. The one closest to the firewall is the one that leads to the T-case. If you unplug this harness while in neutral with the engine running, wait for the VCD & SLIP light to come on and the plug it back in, the system will cycle through and reset back to 2WD. Though as mentioned, it may take a couple of attempts.
** I cannot say that this will not lead to further problems as you are disconnecting and reconnecting a power source to electrical components of the 4WD system, but it has worked for me on several occasions. I believe that I have an internal failure in the Transfer control device (located on the T-case) and this is the only solution I have found so far to fix a similar problem you are having.

Have you tried keeping the brake pedal pressed while in neutral and switching the mode back to 4H>2H
